The Mind Becomes Restless When It Needs Too Much
Why desire quietly turns into dependence
A restless mind is rarely empty.
It is usually crowded.
Crowded with wanting. Crowded with expectation. Crowded with unfinished needs that keep asking for attention. More certainty. More comfort. More approval. More progress. More control. More reassurance that life is moving in the right direction.
Most people think restlessness comes from not having enough.
The Stoic view is different.
Restlessness often comes from needing too much.
Not needing in the basic sense. Not food, safety, shelter, and real responsibility. But the extra layer of demands the mind places on life before it allows itself to be steady. The demand that people understand you. The demand that outcomes arrive quickly. The demand that the future become clear before you act. The demand that discomfort disappear before you can be calm.
The more the mind needs from the world, the less free it becomes inside itself.
