“And eventually, the thing that used to shake you no longer does.”
That’s pure gold.
I’d add — eventually, you might even start to like the thing. The weight feels earned. The silence feels sacred. The mile run becomes a meditation. Real food tastes like truth. Boredom dissolves into contentment.
I have another word for discipline, and it is called grit. If a person is going to be successful they have to be disciplined enough to not quit, because quitters never win and winners never quit. Intelligence alone will not make you a winner or successful in life. It takes discipline, but I prefer the word grit because it is easier to understand the meaning. A person with grit never quits, even though the going might be rough. A good example is Trump in winning the presidential election. Even after being shot and nearly killed, he arose, put his fist in the air and shouted "Fight, fight!" That was not discipline, that was pure grit! He was not a quitter, and he ended up being a winner. I am not talking politics here, I am just using this as an example. I could also have used Jesus as an example. He died and still came back to finish what he started. I am not talking religion here, I am just using that as an example of grit. Pete Rose is another example. Despite being an ordinary baseball player, he became one of the best second basemen in Cincinnati Reds history because, the guy had grit. His determinatin, fearlessness in starting the head first slide into 2nd base, and determination made him very successful. Another thought for "stoics" is that they have to "expect the unexpected." A phrase that is popular today and was coined by Madame Curie in the late 1800's. When the unexpected happens, a person with grit, even if they are a stoic, will not quit until the unexpected has been resolved.
What a great principle! Thank you! We see that in our patients. Those who complete their rehab routines get better sooner. And feel more and more empowered.
Well said! When we achieve liberation, we have nothing to hide, nothing to prove, nothing to gain, and nothing to lose.
This is so spot on. Thank you so very much for this reminder this morning. Bless you.
So glad it connected with you this morning. Thank you and bless you too.
